Re: aluminum boat transom repair from the picture it looks like the transom aluminum part is actually sheared off of the angled part that fits inside and is riveted on. if thats the case you have bigger problems than the wood. i can see the edge of the lip that is riveted to the hull.. Measure and cut replacement transom with lvl engineered structural beam..
From the looks of the transom in this boat, i would estimate a typical transom will last about 20 years or so before they need to be replaced. this boat is a 1972 and the pictures were taken in late 2007 and as you can see, the transom was in bad shape. it should have been replaced years ago.. The wood that is sandwiched in the transom of aluminum tinnies used in saltwater seems to cause this type of corrosion issue. the thinner the skin, the sooner it shows up as a problem. bobby has a plethora of information on boat repair in his head , he is a great guy and plays well with others. lester, ↳ alloy pictures ↳ hauling.
